Product Details

Near Keswick, to the south of Derwent Water, is Borrowdale and the pass that leads to Buttermere are the green slate quarries of Honister.

The pigment is created from the waste powder created through cutting the slate. We then wash, sieved and process it into a fine transparent pigment that is greyish-green. Highly prized by local artists and almost unknown outside the area.

This is our most popular pigment. When we burn or calcine this at a high heat it creates an interesting burnt green umber.

Suitable in all mediums and is semi-opaque and lightfast.

In the painted hand painted swatch card it is second in the second row.

Each vial contains approximately 10g of refined pigment and measures 22 x 75mm. The vials also make a fine gift or souvenir for anybody that is an artist.
