Tan Hill pub the highest in the Britain surrounded by wild peat moors were the counties of Cumbria, Yorkshire and County Durham meet. Close by we found the intense orange clay embedded with mica.
The orange ochre is clay stained with iron oxide better known as rust. When it is calcined or roasted this turns into a rich reddish brown similar to Raw Sienna.
Suitable in all mediums and like most natural ochres is opaque and lightfast.

Each vial contains approximately 10g of refined pigment and measures 22 x 75mm. The vials also make a fine gift or souvenir for anybody that is an artist.
